Dear Caribbean BBQ Association members,

The Board of Directors would like to thank you all for your support of the Association over the past three years. Our photograph album is packed with a chronological history of Judging “The Jack Daniel’s BBQ” Contests through the start of “the La Bodega de Mendez” Contest, to the last monthly meeting we had in February 2008.

The Board of Directors has been evaluating the CBBQA, our monthly meeting, the training programs, contests, and our mission statement, and come to the conclusion that changes to some of these operational aspects is due for an overhaul while some of it just needs some adjusting.

It is our goal and sole purpose to have the kind of BBQ Association that you are learning from, enjoying socially, and involved in.

The CBBQA has been approached by several large companies who are interested in obtaining and hiring our services to aid them in a variety of special events. We recently completed a contract project for SuperMax and have the following projects on the table; two training classes with two requests for two more private training classes, one food festival, two large catering projects, The Anasco BBQ Contest, The SuperMAX Summer BBQ Tour, and are negotiating for a CBBQA BBQ Contest to replace the Jack Daniel’s BBQ which has recently been permanently cancelled in Puerto Rico due to budget restraints.

With these types of new projects it will allow the CBBQA to focus more on our true mission statement of teaching and training the art of slow smoking BBQ & grilling. It increases our opportunity for revenues needed for the operation and upkeep of the CBBQA and the smoker and grilling equipment, while decreasing the man hours needed to operate and maintain the CBBQA.

Beginning and effective immediately we will discontinue the regular scheduled monthly meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month. Our most heartfelt thanks to everyone that supported that project, everyone who ever brought a side dish, served as a Pit Master or Party Master, helped to serve a plate of food in the line, take money, sell a ticket, bring a friend, or just come have a BBQ dinner with us. A special thanks to all our sponsors that gave so generously to the BBQ Association a huge thanks to you. And certainly thanks to Soleil Beach Club, Bamboobei, and Porto’s Restaurant for inviting our association in to dine at their tables. Man oh man we have had some good times and shared some good meals along this BBQ road together!

We would like to continue to have a quarterly BBQ meeting but this may be contingent upon filling the position of Trimester Party Coordinator. We will keep you informed and updated as these new developments unfold for us.

With the many new and challenging projects on our schedule we have broken down the critical functions of the CBQA into 7 areas of responsibility or committees. As you can see form the list below this paragraph several positions already have a Committee Chair Head, some are still open, but all the different areas need people to help and serve the association. If you see a committee that you would like to serve on, whether as a little time occasionally, or whether you want to serve as a Chair Head, contact us through Membership@BBQPR.com,

Your Board of Directors may recognize one of you among us who they feel would serve the BBQ Assoc. well. They may call upon you to do your duty as a great BBQ Ambassador and serve on a project or committee. Some of you will be drafted! It is legal in the BBQ Association.

Within a few weeks I will be sending our members a list of the various events with the scheduled dates and times. For now let us mention that we have been contracted to do the Plaza Las Americas Food Festival on Sunday May the 25th. We will be having a grilled hamburger competition, and if all works out as we are planning, there will be a grand price of $1000.00 cash for the winner of the contest. If you think you can grill a great burger get your team together and send your information in to me ASAP. The contest will be limited to 8 teams only. We will need 6 judges and judges staff along with some volunteers to assist with the contest. This is great opportunity to get involved and learn while serving your BBQ Association. If you are interested in working with us on this project in any capacity mentioned above e-mail me Mike@bbqpr.com
